[ED-TECH] Fun Friday & Writing Tablet Training

TOMORROW at Fun Friday, 12:20 pm - 1:10 PM, Richter Library, Room 305, Faculty Exploratory, we will demo Adobe Acrobat's incredible ability to convert scanned documents so that you can search them, and the versatile and free Handbrake program for converting videos to various formats. Don't miss this chance to learn new things about technology. Bring your lunch from home or stop by the University Center food court or Subway in the Law School and pick something up to eat during the presentation.

This coming TUESDAY, April 28, there will be two opportunities to learn about the writing tables available in the Memorial, Learning Center, and Residential College Classrooms. You will learn to use the SMART Notebook software to prepare and deliver lecture material, writing directly on it during the presentation. If you use these classrooms, I urge you to attend one of these sessions, either 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM (almost full at the moment) or 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Sign up for Fun Friday or the writing tablet training by going to http://www.miami.edu/iac and clicking on the "Events" menu item.

[ED-TECH] Fun Friday, April 24th @ 12:20 PM in Richter 305

Last month we changed the Fun Friday location to Pearson-Mahoney, in order to have more space, and we stopped providing free lunch. Attendance dropped dramatically so this month we are retuning to Richter 305, the Faculty Exploratory, but are still in the "no food provided" situation. We hope you will take a break and come over for another Fun Friday demonstration.

[ED-TECH] Susan Boyle on YouTube

Given the fact that there have been more than 20 million views of this internet video in the past five days, you may have already seen the video Susan Boyle on Britains Got Talent, but, if not, you need to see it NOW! I was inspired by her incredible voice, humbled by her positive outlook, and embarrassed by my, and the audience's, initial reaction to her. Go to the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZY web page to see it, and have the Kleenex nearby.

[ED-TECH] Doing new things: TweakToday

How do we find new ideas, new experiences, and new ways to see the world? The wonderful web site http://tweaktoday.com creates, through a collaborative process, a "mission" each day for people to complete, share, and discuss. Carpe diem.

[ED-TECH] SoTL Conference presentations available

I know everyone is hard at work trying to finish off the semester/year and I congratulate you on everything that has been accomplished this year. If you are interested in some things going on at other schools, you might enjoy checking out the proceedings from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Commons in March 2009, available at the http://academics.georgiasouthern.edu/ijsotl/conference/proceedings/2009/papers.htm or http://tinyurl.com/sotl09 web address. By looking over the PowerPoint and PDF handouts from the sessions that interest you, you can quickly learn some valuable things from people who are studying the teaching and learning process in higher ed.

They are happy to work with students individually, helping them apply the writing process to your assignments. In addition they offer regular workshops on a variety of subjects.
