[ED-TECH] ARTstor and Shared Shelf Information Meeting - Friday at 3:00 pm

Ed-Tech list members,

If you use a lot of visual images in your teaching, you might want to attend the ARTstor meeting on Friday, March 26, 3:00 pm, 3rd floor conference room, Richter LIbrary. This is a chance to talk directly with the President of ARTstor. ARTstor is a digital library of images as well as space to organize your personal images. UM libraries subscribes to ARTstor and has been working on making the service more valuable to faculty who use visual images. Art History and Architecture make major use of the service. Many people in other disciplines might be able to make use of it, too. See the invitation, below, from Yolanda Cooper, Deputy University Librarian, about this event.

NOTE: This will NOT be a training session on ARTstor or what it does. This is a chance to discuss your use of visual resources in teaching, so that the new "Shared Shelf" service can be designed to meet your needs. If you want to get a feel for ARTstor before the meeting, or if you cannot attend, go to http://www.libguides.miami.edu/ARTstor for some wonderful training pages about ARTstor. To access ARTstor from UM you can go to the http://bit.ly/artstor web address. ARTstore also has some videos on the http://youtube.com/artstor web page.

Subject: ARTstor and Shared Shelf Information Meeting

Colleagues,

Over the past year, the Libraries have partnered with ARTstor, eight institutions, and the Society of Architectural Historians to develop "Shared Shelf", a tool to facilitate the management and sharing of digital images. The institutional partners include Colby College, Middlebury College, Cornell University, Harvard University, New York University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Yale.

A beta version of Shared Shelf will be available for use this summer. I write you today to invite you to a meeting to discuss the use of ARTstor's hosting program for teaching and the future migration to Shared Shelf. James Shulman, President of ARTstor, will visit the University of Miami campus on March 26th, 2010 specifically to meet with all interested faculty and discuss their use of ARTstor and visual resources in teaching. The discussion is timely and essential as we work to develop the best possible product to meet the needs of our faculty.

The meeting is scheduled for this Friday, March 26th at 3 p.m., in the 3rd floor conference room of the Otto G. Richter Library. We hope you can join us for this discussion.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me at ycooper@miami.edu<mailto:ycooper@miami.edu> or 284-1728. If you would like more information about Shared Shelf visit http://artstor.org/news/n-html/an-090714-shelf.shtml.

Best,
Yolanda
