created this list to distribute information about Educational Technology.

Here are a few reminders.

1. If you want to unsubscribe you can do it a number of ways. A. Send me
an e-mail and I will remove you from the list. B. Go to
http://listserv.miami.edu/archives/ed-tech.html, click on the "Join or
leave the list" link, and follow the instructions. C. Send the message
"UNSUBSCRIBE ED-TECH" (in the body of the list, not the subject) to
listserv@listserv.miami.edu. (This will only work if sent from the
address that you are subscribed as.)

2. If you know someone who would like to subscribe tell them to do one of
the following. A. Send me an e-mail and I will add them to the list. Tell
me if they want to be on this list (Ed-Tech) and/or the Blackboard
Announcements list (Bb). B. Go to http://www.snurl.com/bbforms and fill
out the "Mailing List" form. B. Go to
http://listserv.miami.edu/archives/ed-tech.html, click on the "Join or
leave the list" link, and follow the instructions. C. Send the message
"SUBSCRIBE ED-TECH" (in the body of the list, not the subject) to
listserv@listserv.miami.edu.

[ED-TECH] Apply now for the 2014 Faculty Learning Community

If you are interested in exploring how you can use technology to improve student learning in your classes, apply for the 2014 faculty learning community (FLC) at UM. You will explore Information and Communication Technology and then make some design changes in your courses based on what you have, personally, learned. For that you get money, release time, and (best of all) a chance to reflect on and improve teaching and learning with a group of your fellow faculty members.

The application is extremely short, so fill it out now. It is due by December 7th, but DON'T WAIT. This is a valuable opportunity that I encourage you to take. You can see the list of FLC Fellows, 2009-2013, on the http://scholar.library.miami.edu/flc/ web site. Talk to one of them and see if this is something that you would like to be part of.

[ED-TECH] Bookstore sale on Thursday, especially technology, especially Apple

I was in the bookstore this morning and the manager mentioned that they are having a HUGE sale on Thursday. Mainly technology but lots of other stuff, too, I guess. Apple products are almost never discounted beyond the $100 educational discount, but they will have additional reductions on Thursday. Thought I should share the info, in case anyone can take advantage of it.

The general purpose classrooms at UM, located primarily in Memorial, the Learning Center, Allen Hall, and the Residential Colleges, feature a wide range of technologies that can be used to enhance teaching. Training sessions have been scheduled to demonstrate the features of the rooms, including the video cameras, lights, telephone system, and writing tablets. Anyone teaching in one of these classrooms is encouraged to attend one of the scheduled demonstrations. To sign up for a training session, please visit: http://iacevents.org .
