[ED-TECH] Fun Friday #5 - 6/27 - Register NOW

Ed-Tech list members,

I know many of you are not on campus for the summer, but for those who are around....

Announcing Fun Friday #5, June 27th, from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, in The Learning Center, Room 170

Sorry for the late announcement.  If you can attend, please register quickly so we will know how much food to have available.

  1. Please go to http://iac.miami.edu and use the “Events” button to find the registration form.

  2. Remember that lunch is provided.  If you have special needs, put them in the “Comments” section of the registration form.

  3. Please share this information with other people in your organization.  You are being sent this invitation because you signed up for one of the previous sessions.  Please invite others to take part.

We are changing the format slightly.  Instead of three presentations, we are dropping to two presentations, so that we will have time for open discussion.  Topics that came up last month were the general purpose classroom upgrades, iTunes U, and student clickers.  Any questions about technology at UM are fair game.  Sharing what you are doing in your area is encouraged.

[ED-TECH] The most important thing...

Another quote from the same speaker.

"What is the most important thing in education?

Asking questions"

Teachers putting questions to the students.
Students asking questions to the teacher and each other.
Teachers and students asking questions of each other and themselves.

[ED-TECH] Teaching thought

I am in San Fracisco at a conference. A speaker just said that, when
designing courses, learning activities, or course web sites, we need
to be "thinking about the learning path, the learning journey." The
focus is on what the students do to learn the material, not when the
instructor will cover what part of the material.

[ED-TECH] SoftChalk LessonBuidler 4 now available

SoftChalk LessonBuilder has been updated to Version 4.  You can find the new version at http://www.miami.edu/software in the “Web Browsers and Plug Ins” section.  There are a number of new capabilities in version 4 including designing your own look-and-feel and a number of new activities.  UM has a site license for LessonBuilder.

LessonBuilder is a system that allows you to create on-line learning activities.  The final product is very professional.  You can include a large number of activities to make the learning engaging and interactive.  Results from the activities can become part of the Blackboard grade book, if you want it to.

For more information, see the links below, or sign up for the Short Courses provided by SoftChalk.
